Colorado Artist Jennifer Morrison Godshalk. An Epic Universe Painting Titled "Galaxy". Abstract Oil Painting Of The Universe!

"Galaxy"
36 x 36 Inches
Contemporary Oil Painting On Canvas

SOLD

This painting is by far my favorite abstract universe painting!  "Galaxy" SOLD before completion and is on its way to a new home in Colorado!

The colors and brilliance are simply amazing in our universe!  I have studied images from the Hubble Telescope and our universe holds the most magnificent images with what I consider brilliant artwork by the hand of God.   I can't come close to His masterpieces, however I have enjoyed creating my perception of these images!

Another sketch!  I am truly enjoying these sketches as it is helping me to grow as I step back into the raw, basic format of drawing.  These sketches are amazing in person, and a black frame would add the perfect contemporary flair to any home.

A Contemporary Horse Sketch By Colorado Artist Jennifer Morrison Godshalk

Valiant
A Charcoal Horse Sketch On Canvas
By Jennifer Morrison Godshalk

It's back to the basics, and sketching away.  I enjoy capturing the details of sketches that usually are covered up by oil paints.  Here is the first stage, or the "Raw" format with which I start.  I want to show the underlying elements to my artwork.  I love this sketch and I am not sure whether to add any color or perhaps leave it as is?  Hmmm..  Taking votes now on my Facebook page!  Click on the link to participate.

The Valiant name came easily to me, as this horse appeared to be a warrior.  Noble eyes, strong neck and jawline, yet a gentle horse in nature.  He is Valiant!

Prints are available and so is the original.

A Contemporary Horse Painting By Colorado Artist Jennifer Morrison Godshalk

A Contemporary Colorful Horse Painting
 True Companions

48 x 48 Inches
Oil On Canvas

A Colorful, Contemporary Palette Knife Horse Painting

This painting is colorful and contemporary in nature.  Layers upon layers of oil paint has been applied with a palette knife to create this sculpted, detailed effect in this colorful painting.  This painting takes time to complete, as the layers of paint have to dry before applying the next layer.
I am really loving this technique, and I find it somewhat addictive.  I stumbled upon this effect when I painted the elk painting titled "A Call In The Night".    The elk painting was my first painting in which I did not complete a painting a day.  I decided that I was going to take my time to produce my work, not pressured to produce mass quantity, but rather take my time and produce rich quality.

True Companions close up2

As you can see from the photo above, there are multiple colors which blend through this painting making up the colorful composition which enrich these horses.  Details of rich depth, midtones, and light complete the muscular/skeletal structure.

True Companions close up

I try not to get the colors too rainbow like, adding subtle lighting and dark colors break up and tone down the bright colors.   I am really happy with the outcome of this painting, and look forward to painting more!

"Kobuk's Domain" A Contemporary Grizzly Bear Painting By Colorado Artist Jennifer Morrison Godshalk

Kobuk

My husband John captured this photo of Kobuk at his wildlife domain in Montana.  I was so excited to paint this image as the lighting on this grizzly is truly incredible!
Kobuk is a playful, mischievous grizzly who proceeded to play and disassemble the trees in his domain.

Here is the painting:

Kobuk's Domain

This painting is truly amazing in person.  The paints used here are oil, and I applied the paint with a palette knife.  I will take this painting to my art reception in Telluride August 1st, and if the painting does not sell that weekend, I will be happy to bring it back home and hang it on my wall.  It is hard to part with paintings like this, as to paint an exact duplication of an original, it is nearly impossible to capture the same free spirit of the painting without forced strokes of the paint which hinder and oppress the image.

Contemporary Ocean Painting By Jennifer Morrison Godshalk SOLD To A Collector In Florida, Ocean Waves

Ocean Waves

This painting is 30 x 40 inches and is oil on canvas.  I painted this artwork with a palette knife, adding blue tones along with turquoise and green oil paints.  I layered the white splashes with thick texture which you can see in the image below:

Thick textured layered oil paints really helped bring to life the crashing waves creating wonderful motion  and contrast.  I can hear the waves crashing while viewing this painting!

This is a SOLD commissioned painting for a collector in Florida and I was happy to paint it for their vacation home.

Giclee Canvas hand signed and numbered prints are now available!

Colorful, Fun Bear Paintings By Colorado Fine Artist Jennifer Morrison Godshalk

Daydreaming Bear
24 x 24 x 1 3/4 Inches
Acrylic On Canvas

Sweet Dreams Bear
24 x 24 x 1 3/4 Inches
Acrylic On Canvas

These two bears are fun, whimsical paintings splashed with acrylic colors!

I had a great time painting these as it is a fun break from the heavy oil paints.  I got the idea after painting the painting below titled "Paint Horse"

Paint Horse

This painting is amazing in person and after painting it I really wanted to try a couple of fun bear paintings. Unlike this horse painting, the bears are loose and free, no muscular definition or shading, just paint splashed with a palette knife and parts of the canvas untouched.

It is always fun to create new ideas and move forward with different techniques!

Prints are available and information about original paintings can be found at my website.

Jennifer Morrison Godshalk Contemporary Horse Painting, Out Of The Blue Available At Elinoff Gallery In Telluride, Colorado

Out Of The Blue
20x16 Inches

This painting is a palette knife oil painting on canvas.  I first added the definition colors, defining the muscles and shadowing of the horse.  I continued with layering the colors utilizing thick layers of oil paints to blend the contrasting hues until I received the look I was trying to achieve.
I simply love the outcome of this artwork and I would like to repaint it on a larger scale.

This painting is available at my newest gallery representation at Elinoff Gallery in Telluride, Colorado!
Prints are available as well.  Click here!
